So, you’re pretty sure that you’re a Spring - you’ve clocked that you look best in colors that are warm, light and vivid and your features lean fair and warm as well. But how do you tell if you’re a Light Spring vs True Spring? Sometimes the difference can be subtle. Fear not - we’ll go over the differences in this article!
Both Light Spring and True Spring fall into the Spring season - being warm, bright and light - and share a lot of similarities with each other.
The difference lies in the primary characteristic:
If we go back to the colour wheel, we can see that:
Light Spring: light, warm, bright
True Spring: warm, light, bright
The True Spring palette is characterised by fresh, warm, and lively colours that are light and clear. Think of colours that bring to mind blooming flowers and fresh greenery - bright, cheerful, and full of energy. Even the darker shades in True Spring retain a lightness and warmth.

The Light Spring palette feels bright, fresh, and lively. It’s like the first bloom of flowers in spring or the soft warmth of the sun on a clear day. The colours have yellow or peach undertones, creating a warm, sunny vibe.

So while both palettes are warm and light, Light Spring is airier and more delicate, whereas True Spring is punchier and more saturated.
How to Determine If You’re a Light Spring vs True Spring
Determining whether you fall into the Light Spring or True Spring category involves examining your natural colouring and testing how certain colors complement your skin, eyes, and hair.
The main determining factors between Light Spring and True Spring are temperature (neutral-warm vs fully warm), and depth (very light vs just light). These are the aspects you should focus on when trying to decide between the two.

1. Find Your Primary Characteristic:
This can be difficult to determine, since as a Spring you share all characteristics, regardless of your home season. The trick is finding out whether you are primarily light or primarily warm. Which one is your dominant characteristic?
Appearance: What is the first thing that people might notice about your appearance? Is it the lightness (Light Spring)? Or is it your warm glow (True Spring)?
Light vs Warm: Do you gravitate more towards softer and lighter neutral-warm colors (Light Spring) or towards more saturated and overly warm colors (True Spring)?
Color Check: How do you feel in neutral-light colors like lavender, pink, light teal (Light Spring) vs very warm colors like orange, coral, red, sunshine yellow (True Spring)? Which one feels more harmonious?
2. Eye and Hair Color:
True Spring: True Springs often have clear, warm eyes, such as bright blue, green, or warm hazel. Hair colors can vary from light golden blonde to warm brown or red, typically with a sunny, golden and bright quality. Many natural redheads are True Springs. The overall effect of a True Spring’s appearance is bright, warm, and lively.
Light Spring: The eyes of Light Springs are often green, blue or blue-green. Their hair hair might be light blonde, golden blonde, or light brown with warm undertones. The overall features are bright and light.
3. The Color Test:
Another great way to see which season suits you best is to pick up fabrics from the True Spring (left) and Light Spring (right) palettes and compare them to each other. Look at the effect the color has on your skin tone, eyes and lips.
Salmon vs. Tangerine: Which one makes your complexion look more vibrant?
Butterscotch vs Pale Yellow: Which one brightens your eyes and skin?
Spring Green vs. Light Green: Which one makes you look more radiant?
Tomato vs Warm Pink: Which suits you better?

This should give you some indication of which season might be your home season and which colours suit you best. Experiment a little with the different colours and watch how you feel and how other people react - some hints that you are on the right track are:
people asking you if you changed something about your appearance (even if you haven’t);
feeling more refreshed, awake, confident and radiant;
not needing to wear as much make-up.
4. Comparing Sister Seasons
Finally, the method that might give you the most reliable answer - looking at the sister seasons. This should give you a pretty clear answer since one of them will usually be a complete no-go.
All palettes in the 12-season color analysis system have a sister season which shares the primary characteristic. You should be able to borrow some colors from your sister season and feel comfortable in that palette as well.
For Light Spring, the sister season is Light Summer. For True Spring, it's True Autumn.
Could you pull off wearing cool light pink, light blue, light green? Do you still look good in silver jewellery if needed? If so, you might be a Light Spring.
Could you wear mustard, olive green, terracotta, brick red, warm muted browns? Do you look good in bronze and heavy gold jewellery? If so, you might lean more towards True Spring.
