With warm, muted undertones and rich, earthy colouring, Autumns shine in cosy, soft tones that other seasons struggle to pull off. Whether you're a Soft, True, or Deep Autumn, this guide will show you how to enhance your natural warmth without overpowering your subtle beauty.

Soft Autumn

Soft Autumns have warm undertones but lean muted and gentle. Your colouring is soft, low contrast, and dusted with earthiness. Keep makeup warm, understated, and blended; avoid anything too bright or cool-toned, which will clash with your softness.

Foundation: Keep It Natural and Dewy

Choose light to medium coverage with a warm, neutral undertone. Avoid heavy mattes or anything too orange or peachy that can look artificial.

  • Warm, neutral undertone

  • Medium-light coverage

Lips: Warm, Muted, and Natural Soft

Autumns look great in soft terracotta, muted peach, or dusty rose shades. Stay away from bright reds, deep berries, or anything too glossy. Matte or satin finishes work best.

  • Soft terracotta

  • Muted peach

  • Dusty rose

  • Soft nude

  • Warm mauve

Eyes: Soft Browns and Earthy Shadows

Stick to soft browns, warm taupes, and muted golds. Avoid stark black liners or anything too shimmery and bright. Brown mascara and eyeliner keep the look gentle.

  • Eyeliner/Mascara: Soft brown

Blush/Bronzer: Subtle Warmth

Go for warm apricot, peach, or soft cinnamon tones that blend seamlessly. Avoid bright pinks or heavy contouring, which can look harsh.

  • Blush: warm apricot, peach

  • Bronzer: Soft cinnamon, terracotta

Eyeshadow: Muted Warmth

Choose matte or satin finishes in soft cinnamon, olive, muted gold, and dusty copper. Steer clear of anything too bright, metallic, or cool.

  • Muted greens

  • Muted golds

  • Muted browns and camels

  • Dusty copper

True Autumn

True Autumns are warm, rich, and vibrant with medium to high contrast. Your makeup can be warmer, deeper, and more pigmented, but it still needs to respect your natural earthy palette. Avoid cool or overly bright colors.

Foundation: Warm and Medium Coverage

Medium coverage foundations with warm, golden undertones work best. Avoid pink-based or very matte formulas.

  • Warm undertone

  • Medium coverage

Lips: Rich, Warm Shades

True Autumns shine in warm reds, pumpkin orange, burnt sienna, and warm brick shades. Avoid anything too cool, blue-based, or too pale. Gloss or satin finishes suit well.

  • Warm red

  • Terracotta

  • Soft pumpkin

  • Burnt sienna

  • Warm brick

Eyes: Warm and Defined

Rich browns, warm plums, and deep coppers enhance your eyes. Black eyeliner is usually too harsh; opt for deep brown or bronze. Brown mascara adds warmth and definition.

  • Eyeliner/Mascara: Deep brown, bronze or plum

Blush/Bronzer: Warm and Bold

Peachy, warm bronze, and terra cotta blushes are your friends. Bronzer can be more defined but avoid ash tones.

  • Blush: peachy and warm-toned

  • Bronzer: soft gold, warm brown

Eyeshadow: Earthy and Vibrant

Warm golds, burnt orange, mossy greens, and rich plums work beautifully. Avoid cool blues, bright pinks, and greys.

  • Gold

  • Mossy greens

  • Burnt orange

  • Terracotta

  • Rich plum

  • All kinds of warm browns

Deep Autumn

Deep Autumns have warm undertones combined with deep, intense, high-contrast coloring. You can pull off rich, bold makeup but must keep it warm and grounded.

Foundation: Medium to Full Coverage

Choose foundations with golden or olive undertones. Matte or natural finish works depending on your skin type. Avoid cool, pink, or very light bases.

  • Medium-warm undertones

  • Medium to full coverage

Lips: Deep and Warm

Dark berries, brick reds, rich chestnuts, and burnt oranges look fantastic. Avoid frosty or overly bright colors that clash with your intensity. Matte or satin finishes are flattering.

  • Dark berry reds

  • Brick red

  • Rich browns

  • Burnt orange

  • Burgundy

  • Wine red

Eyes: Rich and Dramatic

Deep browns, auburn, dark olive, and bronze shades enhance your eyes. Black eyeliner can work if it’s softened or smudged. Avoid cool tones like icy blue or silver.

  • Eyeliner/Mascara: Dark brown or black

Blush/Bronzer: Strong and Warm

Rich terracotta and deep peach blushes are perfect. Bronzer should be warm and well-blended, never grey or muddy.

  • Blush: rich terracotta, deep peach

  • Bronzer: deep gold, soft brown

Eyeshadow: Deep and Warm

Dark chocolate, bronze, rust, olive, and warm auburn shades suit you best. Avoid pastels and cool tones.

  • Dark chocolate

  • Bronze

  • Rust

  • Olive

  • Burgundy

  • Warm auburn

  • Dark brown

Autumns look fantastic in warm, muted, earthy, and rich colors. Your makeup should deepen your natural warmth and avoid anything too bright, cool, or icy. Stick to soft blends, warm neutrals, and golden undertones. If you stray too far from this, your natural glow dims.

When unsure, lean into burnt orange over bright red, terracotta over pink, and bronze over silver. Your best makeup complements your autumnal warmth — never competes with it.
